Nintendo’s E3 2012 Press Conference

I had high hopes for Nintendo.  Sadly these hopes were not realized in their press conference as they don’t seem to have learned much from past mistakes.  As usual Reggie Fils-Aime was the host and anchor of the show, and looked awkward, uncomfortable, and even lost at times.
To be honest Nintendo’s show really wasn’t pretty boring, and just about put me to sleep particularly at the end of the conference when they should have been really ending with a big, not a whimper.  There was very little there that I found compelling, and no real reason that says “this is why you must have this system”.  Instead they showed a few interesting titles, but other then New Super Mario Bros. U and Pikmen 3 the first party titles were sparse and uninspiring.
Wii Fit U was mentioned with a new item a “fit meter” which looks to be a pedometer shaped like the pokéwalker from Pokémon Heart Gold or Soul Silver.  The other new title revealed was NintendoLand, which looks to be the “Wii Sports” or “learn how to use and interact with your system” game that they will throw in for free.  It has your Miis visiting a theme park full of Nintendo first party references.
That right ther eends the new things Nintendo annouced that was first part.  Huge list no?  There was no talk about price, release date, etc.  calming something along the lines of everyone “came to E3 for the games” and so that was their focus.  They did promise more information in the near future.  Still this was a let down to me for the over all game.
A few details were added for other games such as Luigi’s Mansion 2 becoming Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon, or Lego City becoming Lego City Undercover.   there were a few 3ds games mentioned with the best in my opinion being New Super Mario Bros. 2, Paper Mario Sticker Star, Kingdom Hearts 3d: Dream Drop Distance, and finally Castlevania Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate.  Also mentioned Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon. Disney’s Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, and Scribblenauts Unlimited.
For another conference Ubisoft swooped in to save the day.  Revealed/Confirmed for the Wii U was Rayman Legends, ZombiU, Assassin’s Creed 3, Rabbids Land, Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012, Sports Connection, Avengers Battle for Earth, and Just Dance 4.  Of these the blockbusters I think are obvious:  Just Dance will make Nintendo money, as will Assassin’s Creed 3, and Rayman legends.
The only thing I haven't mentioned were Batman Arkham City: Armor Edition, which is a new version of Arkham City made specifically for the Wii U. Scribblenauts Unlimited, Darksiders II, Mass Effect 2, Tank! Tank! Tank!. Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Trine2: Director’s Cut, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, and Aliens Colonial Marines.
All in all this was a weak line up as I feared for the Wii U, with titles like Metroid, Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Animal Crossing, and Super Smash Bros.  all conspicuously absent.  The titles they showed were all prerecorded with the exception of Just Dance 4, a little bit of Pikmen, and ashort ZombiU demo.  All in all I saw nothing that makes me WANT to buy a WiiU, although I’m a huge Mario fan, I can’t justify an unkown price with an unkown release date for a system that I know so little about.
The ONE bit of good news they confirmed… the WiiU will support two controller pads.
