You think you know a person
Most of us can say that at one point we had someone in our lives that we cared about enough to at least know the person if not care about them. It can be an interesting experience to then go though and watch said person change over the years. This is particularly true if you have spent a considerable time apart from the person, or have the abilities to step away from the situation and analyze it from a different perspective. How did they used to act? What did they think was funny? How would they have handled a certain situation? Usually these things change over time as we mature, age and have increased experiences in the world.
Sometimes however the changes are not for the best. For example I know someone who used to be very adamant about taking care of their family. Seeing to their needs, and she at times, bent over backwards to ensure that they were happy, and that there was nothing that they had to complain about. How many of you would wager that this person is still this way? If you voted for no, you absolutely … partly correct. Let me explain.
The person I have in mind is and was someone you could usually count on. Punctual, efficient, fair, and level headed but now they spend almost all of their time playing games. Computer games, Online games, DS games… it doesn't matter. I've known a few people in my life who have gone down this road, and it's always a little shocking and usually disappointing. It's disturbing to think that games can be so important, so addicting to someone that they would put aside things that are important to them just so they can play games. However in conjunction with my last article there is evidence that games are becoming more addictive, check out Cracked.com's article about how makers are trying to keep you addicted.
The lesson here is simple. ANYONE can get addicted to games. Doesn't matter if you are talking about poker, DS, or role playing games anyone can become addicted to games. True some conditions such as having a difficult time separating fantasy from reality make it more likely, this doesn't prevent people from becoming addicts.
